October 4th 8:00-4:00 p.m. Cultural Responsiveness in DV & Mental Health Settings
The target audience for this workshop is domestic violence providers, social workers, physical and mental health providers, law enforcement, and the legal community and the goal is to provide them with valuable training and skills on how to effectively and successfully work with victims of diverse backgrounds, specifically Muslim and immigrant women. This workshop will be held at Deaconess Hospital in Johnson Hall.

October 9th Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day
This day is created to raise awareness to the medical community about domestic violence, which is the number one cause of injury for women, higher than rape and automobile accidents combined. Contact AFBC for pamphlets, tear-aways or to inquire about trainings available to your staff.
October 17th 4:30 p.m. Flowers on the Lake at USI
Join the University of Southern Indiana and AFBC at “Flowers on the Lake” march. This event honors the memory of victims who have lost their lives due to violence in our state. There will be a short presentation and participants will have the opportunity to toss flowers into the lake in memory of any victims or survivors of violence. The march will start in front of the Liberal Arts building.
October 18th 8:30-4:30 p.m. Faces of Change at Ivy Tech
Join the Substance Abuse Council of Vanderburgh County, Deaconess Cross Pointe, Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. and Albion Fellows Bacon Center at Johnson Hall at Ivy Tech. This training is geared towards educating professionals on the various faces of addiction.
October 22nd 5:30 p.m. Flowers on the Lake - Gibson County
This event, hosted by the Gibson County Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force, will honor those individuals, whose lives have been shattered by domestic violence, including the approximately 58 Hoosiers who died last year and 4 Gibson county residents, by the hands of someone they loved. Participants will meet at Lafayette Lake. A short program will follow including Mayor Hurst proclaiming it as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Participants will then release flowers into the lake in memory of victims and survivors of domestic violence. If you have any questions please contact Sophia 812-422-9372.
October 25th 8:30-12:00 p.m. Creating Cultural Competency in Sexual Violence Prevention
In order to effectively address sexual violence in communities, it is important to develop a culturally relevant trauma-informed response in prevention efforts and victim services. This workshop will focus on ways that organizations and professionals can assess their own capacity for reaching underserved communities. Training hosted by the Evansville-Vanderburgh commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence. Location is at St. Mary's Hosptial's Amphitheater. Participants can register by clicking here.
October 28th 3:00-5:00 p.m. “Community Story Tree” Exhibit-Holly's House 3-5 p.m.
Join AFBC and Holly’s House as we hold a grand opening to the “Community Story Tree” exhibit. The tree holds 72 individual tiles created by victims of domestic and sexual assault as well as service providers in hopes to create awareness.
