While many see Albion Fellows Bacon Center as a domestic violence shelter, we embrace and embody the fact that we are #MoreThanAShelter. With the August 2018 statistics of victims served through our non-residency program, we’d like to highlight and emphasize our crisis response.
Through partnerships with Deaconess, Deaconess Gateway, Protective Order Assistance Office, St. Vincent, Aurora, Gibson General Hospital, and Life choices, Albion Fellows Bacon Center can dispatch a number of on-staff Advocates and volunteers who can provide support and information to those experiencing a crisis. Our advocates are trained professionals who recognize that in some of the darkest and/or most violating moments of life, sometimes what a person needs most is someone who hears them, stands for them, and is there to be the shoulder they need to cry on.
In August, we were able to provide non-residential services to 359 people in our community. Of this number: 296 experienced domestic violence, 69 were sexually assaulted, 10 were stalked, and 2 were victims of human trafficking.
