When experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking or human trafficking, deciding whether or not to involve law enforcement can be scary and overwhelming. Advocates are available to discuss this option and offer support. If a decision is made to file a criminal report with law enforcement, advocates can accompany the victim and sit with them while they give a statement. From there, advocates are able to keep the victim informed about the status of the investigation. If a decision is made not to file a report or if a victim is still undecided, an advocate can be utilized to offer emotional support, safety planning and referrals.
